Direct Print Setup Guide

The Direct Print Setup Guide provides a quick and easy way to deploy Direct Print by guiding you through the required steps. After each step is completed, a green check mark is shown on the right-hand side of the step to indicate that you've completed the step.

Select an Authentication Provider. Select the authentication method for user registration. See User Authentication Providers.

  1. Save Site Encryption Key The Site Encryption Key protects the site keys, which are used for encrypting print jobs. The encryption key is required to download the Device Scout and the master Print Scout. See Recovering the Site Encryption Key.

Note: The system does not retain a copy of the site encryption key and it is important to keep it for future installations to ensure the protection of your data.

  1. Configure Printer Host Address Define the host addresses for the printers on your network. This information will be used by the Device Scout to find Direct Print compatible printers. See Manual entry of a single IP Address or Hostname.
  2. Download Device Scout. Download the Device Scout, which is used to discover printers suitable for Direct Print. The Device Scout only becomes available for download after confirming that the Site Encryption Key has been saved. See Why am I unable to download the Device Scout?.
  3. Install Device Scout . Install the downloaded Device Scout package on a supported Windows server machine. See Installing the Device Scout
  4. Discover Printers. After having successfully installed the Device Scout, it will automatically start scanning your configured IP ranges for network print devices. See Using the Device Discovery and Deployment Utility (DDU) to discover printers.
  5. Download Print Scout. Using the previously saved Site Encryption key, download the master Print Scout. See  .
  6. Install Print Scout . Install the Print Scout on a supported workstation. See Installing Print Scout on Windows.

  1. Deploy Print Scouts. Print Scouts must be installed on user workstations. Print Scout installs the Pharos Secure Release desktop app which enables users to add direct printers. See Deploying Windows Print Scout
  2. Deploy Chromebook Extension. Chromebook users need the Pharos Chome Print installed to enable Pharos Secure Release. See Deploy Chromebook Extension
  3. Invite Direct Print Users. Direct Print users must activate Direct Print on their workstations. Send them an invitation to help them get started. See Invite Direct Print Users.
